“- are there free newspapers like “Compact” from Romania? Yes. There are free newspapers given to travelers on public transportation. In Chicago and Washington, the newspapers are published by the same company that owns that city’s one large daily newspaper.
In New York, a free daily newspaper is distributed by Metro, a London-based company that has free newspapers in cities like Paris, Hong Kong, Stockholm, and London, Another free newspaper is being considered for Los Angeles.
-did the newspapers use to give supliments or presents like “jurnalul national” or “gandul” from Romania? Why? Some American newspapers have done that, but it is very uncommonThat is because it is expensive to distribute the suppliments or bonus gifts. The American business philosophy is that customers want to know the price of something they buy every day before they ask for it. They do not want their newspaper to cost one price today and a different price tomorrow.
-how look like the the writting press in USA after 5 years? In five years from now, there will be fewer journalists working for a printed newspaper and more working for the online or multi-media departments of that newspaper company.
The paper version of the newspaper is probably going to continue for many more years. But each copy will cost much more as advertisers drift to the Web.
It is true that the newspapers world is falling down? ( because internet or television, or another form )
Yes ,the printed newspaper is falling apart. Some of the industries that buy a lot of advertisements, and so are the most profitable, are choosing to advertise in other places. The Internet is carrying news, free, that more and more people read. Also, YouTube, video games, and television-on-demand is drawing away audiences that once spent time with newspapers.
More important, newspapers are almost all owned by public companies. These companies are responsible to their shareholders to do their best to make profits. So, newspaper companies like Gannett and Tribune have decided to cut salaries for journalists and any other expenses they can find to keep their profits high. This has resulted in newspapers that are falling in quality, but that doesn’t matter so much as making sure there are profits. “
